Over 220 others have already been closed, mostly following the end of the Cold War in the 1990s. Many of these installations can be found close to major German cities. In Germany, the military is retaining Barton Barracks in Ansbach, Pulaski Barracks in Kaiserslautern, Coleman Barracks in Mannheim, Husterhoeh Kaserne in Pirmasens, Weilimdorf Warehouse in. Under the Base Realignment and Closure Act of 2005 (BRAC) a number of communities have military installations that are slated to close. The Army is keeping the installations because of its increasing presence in Europe, the release explained. The sites were originally announced for closure in 2015 and, in one case, 2010.
